1.0 History of Papaya

The papaya tree is a tropical plant that is native to Central America. The early Portuguese and Spanish imperialists are responsible for the introduction of the papaya tree to other subtropical locations such as Africa, India and the Philippines. Papaya trees have also been introduced to the warmer parts of North America such as Florida and Hawaii, and countries such as Mexico and Puerto Rico. The papaya is the fruit of the tree.

Look for Papaya that's lightly soft to the touch. 
 
Hard (unripe) papaya is lower in antioxidant value.

Leave the papaya out at room temperature until it starts to soften. Once ripe store in the refrigerator and within a few days of ripening prepare as per below.

4.0 How To Prepare Papaya

  1. Remove the skin of the papaya.
  2. Remove the seeds, discard the seeds. Do not give the seeds to your dog.
  3. Finely chop, mince or puree the papaya.
  4. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze the papaya. 

5.0 How to Add Papaya to Your Dog's Diet

  1. Serve papaya with your dog's meal. 
  2. Make a smoothie recipe with papaya for your dog:
  3. Serve papaya as a treat in-between meals.

6.0 Recommend Serving Size

Small dogs 
1 tsp to 2 tbs
 
Medium dogs 
2 tbs to 1/4 cup
